Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Douglas was born in 1390. He was the son of Archibald Douglas, 4th Earl of Douglas and Margaret Stewart, Lady of Galloway. He was also reported to have been born in 1391. He married Lady Eupheme Graham, daughter of Sir Patrick Graham, Earl of Strathearn and Eupheme Stewart, Countess of Caithness, between 24 February 1423 and 26 April 1425. He died on 26 June 1439 at Restalrig, Midlothian, Scotland, from a fever. He was also reported to have died on 24 November 1440. He was buried at St. Bride's Church, Douglas, Scotland.
Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Douglas was styled as Earl of Wigtoun between 1410 and 1424. He fought in the Battle of Baugé on 22 March 1420/21. He was created Comte de Longueville [France] before 1424. He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to England in 1424, for the ransom of King James I. He succeeded to the title of 5th Earl of Douglas [S., 1358] on 17 August 1424. He succeeded to the title of Duc de Touraine on 17 August 1424. He held the office of a Regent of the Kingdom in 1437. He held the office of Lieutenant-General of the Kingdom in 1438.
