Notes:

Sir William Stewart was the son of Sir Alexander Stewart and unknown daughter Turnbull. He married Isabel Oliver, daughter of Sir Richard Oliver. He died on 14 September 1402, put to death by Sir Henry Hotspur after being captured by the English at the Battle of Homildon Hill.

Sir William Stewart was invested as a Knight Banneret circa 1385. He was Clerk of the Royal Audit. He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to England. He held the office of Sheriff of Teviotdale. He lived at Jedworth, Scotland.

The Stewarts of Garlies descend from Sir William.
